I’m Rachael Shook, the Regional Admissions Counselor for northwest Mississippi, west Tennessee, and the boot heel of Missouri.

I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Ole Miss in May 2008 and am currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in higher education/student personnel.  During my time at Ole Miss, I was active with Ole Miss Orientation, Diamond Girls, Student Spirit Committee, Yearbook, and Greek Life.  I was born in Houston, TX and was raised as a military child (Navy) in Cherry Point, NC, Virginia Beach, VA, Richmond, VA, Panama City, FL, and Memphis (Cordova), TN.  I joined the Ole Miss recruiting team in 2008.

I went to Ole Miss because of its campus beauty, the Grove, the people, and the town—I loved it all.  I was also struck by how everyone is so nice here.  I went on a visit with a friend as a 10th grader in high school.  It was the first college campus I had ever stepped foot on.  My jaw dropped, and I couldn’t believe that this was what a college campus looked like.  From then on out, I was all about Ole Miss and didn’t look anywhere else.  It was also great that it was close enough to home (Cordova) but far enough away, too.  I even got my dad, a UT dental professor, to fall in love with Ole Miss and become a rebel!

Fun Facts:
Pets:  Lily is my 2-year-old Beagle and is practically my child.  At my mom’s house we have 2 other dogs—our 11-year-old Beagle, Hershey, and our 4-year-old Chihuahua, Layla.
Secret indulgence/guilty pleasure(s):  Disney movies and the Disney channel
Favorite Food(s):  Steak and potato with anything chocolate for dessert
If I had to eat dinner with one person who would it be and why?  Dead—Walt Disney, because he’s my hero;  alive—Carrie Underwood, because she seems like such a down to earth type of person, and I love her music!
If I were trapped on an island with one person who would it be and why?  My mom, because we’d get along so well.  She’d make me feel better about being on a deserted island, because she always makes the best out of bad situations and would come up with fun things to do to pass time.
Favorite place you have traveled to:  Disneyworld
Favorite Book(s):  The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
