Student’s art captures world record

A recent graduate’s thesis project “Type A” broke the world record for longest woodblock print and is listed in the 2008 Guinness Book of World Records.

“It was no elementary school dream or anything,” says Christopher Brady, who completed his MFA degree at Ole Miss last year and is on the faculty at Hinds Community College in Jackson. “But as I started making the print and got curious, I looked up the record and when I saw it, I wanted to beat it.”

While Brady rolled out and measured his artwork outside, a gust of wind tore it so he decided to sell off the sections. Now, he says the 282-foot-long print is all over the Southeast, hanging in people’s living rooms.
“It is a neat way for people to have a piece of the longest woodblock print in the world and have a piece of history.”

Basketball team reaches NIT Final Four

The Ole Miss Rebels men’s basketball team played in the postseason for the second-straight year and advanced to the NIT Final Four, played in Madison Square Garden, for the first time in school history. Unfortunately, Ole Miss’ hopes of advancing to the championship game were dashed by Ohio State, who defeated the Rebels 81-69.

The Rebels won 24 games over the 2007-08 season, which is the second-most ever by an Ole Miss squad. Andy Kennedy became the first Rebel coach to post consecutive 20-win campaigns in his first two seasons, and his program set a record for average attendance this season. Led by All-SEC center Dwayne Curtis and freshman All-SEC guard Chris Warren, Ole Miss set new single-season records for points, rebounds and three-pointers.
