Fitness Center & Group Fitness/Multipurpose Room Policies

FITNESS CENTER POLICIES

  • Patrons must be 16 years of age to use the fitness center.
  • Proper athletic clothing and shoes are required. No jeans, jean shorts, or clothing with rivets are allowed as they may damage the upholstery. Sandals, flip-flops, open-toed shoes, open-heeled shoes or boots are also prohibited. Shirts must be worn at all times and should cover all areas of the skin which may come into contact with fitness equipment.
  • Personal property is not permitted in any of the workout areas of the fitness center. All bags, books, keys, etc., are to be placed in the storage cubbies or in the locker rooms as space permits. Neither the Department of Campus Recreation, nor its employees will be responsible for lost or stolen property.
  • No food, gum, or tobacco products are allowed in the fitness center. Water or sports drinks will be permitted in closed plastic containers only.
  • No alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs may be consumed prior to or while using the facility.
  • All dumbbells, bars, and free weights must be returned to their original and proper place/rack immediately after use.
  • Do not lean bars or weights against walls, mirrors, or equipment. Also, do not drop dumbbells or weights on the floor or release machine weight stacks to ‘free fall’ into their original position.
  • Weight belts are not to be worn when using any equipment where the belt buckles may damage upholstery.
  • Cardiovascular equipment is on a first come, first served basis. There is a 30 minute time limit on all cardio equipment when there are patrons waiting.
  • Equipment is available for checkout at the fitness center front desk. Patrons should not attempt to use equipment which they are unfamiliar with or have not received instruction. Questions regarding proper use of any equipment should be directed to the fitness team member on duty. PATRONS WORKOUT AT THEIR OWN RISK!
  • Patrons should wipe down all equipment after use.
  • No equipment shall be removed from the fitness center at any time, for any reason, unless under the supervision of a personal trainer or group fitness instructor.
  • Patrons should report any injuries or facility/equipment irregularity or malfunction to the fitness team member on duty.
  • Collars are required for use on all plate loaded barbells.
  • Spotters are encouraged on heavy lifts. A fitness team member will spot anyone needing a spotter.
  • Olympic or explosive weight lifting is STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. The fitness team reserves the right to ask patrons to discontinue any lifting fitting this description.
  • Patrons are expected to exhibit proper conduct and respect the rights of others. Engaging in unacceptable, unsafe or irresponsible behavior may result in the loss of facility privileges.
  • THESE POLICIES ARE DESIGNED FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR PATRONS. THEREFORE, EACH WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. VIOLATORS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE FACILITY.


  • GROUP FITNESS & GROUP FITNESS/MULTIPURPOSE ROOM POLICIES

  • All patrons must sign an Informed Consent/Release of Liability form and present their Ole Miss ID with a current FIT sticker to participate in group fitness classes.
  • Patrons must be at least 16 years of age to participate in group fitness classes.
  • Proper athletic clothing and shoes are required to participate. Sandals, flip-flops, open-toed shoes, open-heeled shoes, boots, and/or any black-soled shoes are prohibited. You may not participate in classes barefoot, with the exception of yoga, pilates, and aqua aerobics.
  • No food, gum, or tobacco products are allowed in the multipurpose room. Water or sports drinks will be permitted in closed plastic containers only.
  • No alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs may be consumed prior to or while participating in group fitness classes.
  • Patrons should not enter a group fitness class five minutes after it has begun.
  • No children are allowed in the multipurpose room while a class is in session, even if a parent or guardian is present.
  • No unsupervised children are allowed in the multipurpose room at any time.
  • No group fitness equipment shall be removed from the multipurpose room at any time, for any reason, unless under the supervision of a personal trainer or group fitness instructor.
  • Indoor cycling bikes are not to be used by anyone except during indoor cycling classes.
  • Patrons should wipe down all equipment, bikes, and mats after use.
  • Patrons who have musculoskeletal limitations or injuries must notify the group fitness instructor prior to the beginning of the class.
  • Patrons should always exercise within their known personal fitness levels.
  • Patrons are expected to exhibit proper conduct and respect the rights of others. Engaging in unacceptable, unsafe or irresponsible behavior may result in the loss of participation privileges.
  • THESE POLICIES ARE DESIGNED FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR PATRONS. THEREFORE, EACH WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. VIOLATORS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE FACILITY.
