REGULATIONS FOR
PARIS-YATES CHAPEL

Use of the Paris-Yates Chapel for weddings shall be available to students, alumni and their immediate families, current faculty and staff and their immediate families, and retired faculty and staff and their immediate families by using an electronic form located at www.olemiss.edu/chapel . Use of the Chapel requires a fee and may be used in accordance with the terms of the University's Contract for using the Paris Yates Chapel for weddings, also located at the same web address or per attachment. Please contact Dr. Linda Spargo by e-mail at chapel@olemiss.edu if you have questions. Use of the chapel is subject to the following terms and conditions:

Weddings must be scheduled by using the electronic form located at www.olemiss.edu/chapel Weddings may not be scheduled more than one year in advance of the first business day of the month in which the desired wedding date falls. For example, a July 10, 3000, wedding may not be scheduled before July 1, 2999. A wedding may be scheduled up to two weeks before the desired date. In order to schedule a wedding date, the following will be required: names of both parties to be married, connection with the University, a non-refundable fee (see below), a specific day and time requested, and an agreement to abide by all policies and guidelines for use of the Paris-Yates Chapel.

The undersigned must pay a fee of $600 for the use of the Chapel, with a non-refundable deposit of $200 payable to The University of Mississippi upon reserving the Chapel, and the $400 balance due 30 days before the scheduled ceremony. If the courtyard is reserved, that fee is due along with the final balance.

Wedding rehearsals must be scheduled on the Friday evening before the wedding and shall last only one hour due to other scheduled rehearsals. Rehearsals may be scheduled in one of the following time slots on Friday:

  1. 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.
  2. 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.
  3. 7:00 - 8:00 p.m

Weddings may be scheduled during one of the following time slots:

  1. Saturday, 9:00 to 2:00 p.m.
  2. Saturday, 3:00 to 9:00 p.m.
  3. Sunday, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The Chapel will be available at the beginning of the reserved time period and all decorations and other preparations must be set up and removed within the time period.

Clean-up must begin immediately after the end of the wedding ceremony and be completed as soon as possible.

Attendance for the wedding may not exceed 200 people, which is in accordance with state fire codes.

No candles are allowed, except ceremonial candles near the podium.

Real flower petals may not be used. If silk or other artificial petals are used, they must be picked up as part of the clean up.

Nothing shall be hung from the walls.

Only ribbon may be used to secure any decorations to the pews. Tape may not be used. Care will be taken to avoid marring the finish of the pews.

Only an approved organist may play the Chapel organ and/or carillon. The list of approved organists can be obtained by contacting Dr. Linda Spargo by e-mail at chapel@olemiss.edu

Food and beverage are prohibited in the Chapel. No alcoholic beverages may be served on the Chapel grounds. Snacks and beverages may be used by the wedding party in the auxiliary building while preparing for the wedding but must be part of the cleanup after the ceremony.

The Chapel grounds are available for an additional fee of $200 for receptions, which must conclude within the designated time period. All food and beverages from the reception must remain outside and be removed within the designated time period. Tents may not be used on the Chapel grounds. Parties must provide an alternative site for use of the Chapel grounds in case of inclement weather.

The Director of the Chapel will meet with the wedding party at the Chapel within three weeks prior to the wedding to discuss details and special requests for the wedding. This is negotiable depending on family circumstances due to travel, etc. Please e-mail the Director at chapel@olemiss.edu or call the Chapel office at 662-915-6915 to arrange a date and time, Monday-Friday between 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. If you have questions prior to that, please contact the Director in the same manner. It is helpful to have one contact person with whom to communicate questions and concerns to the Director. Please provide that name where designated.. Wedding party members may visit the Chapel on their own prior to the wedding; however, we ask that if you do so, that you are quiet and orderly while there so that others using the Chapel during the week for meditation are not disturbed. At no time should the wedding party members visit the Chapel to discuss plans during Quiet Hours at the Chapel, which are held M-F from 7:00 - 9:00 a.m., Noon, and 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. (except Friday afternoons). Your cooperation in this matter will be greatly appreciated.


WEDDING CONTRACT

The undersigned agree(s) that The University of Mississippi is not responsible for loss or damage to persons or property belonging to the undersigned or any of the undersigned's employees or guests using University facilities and, thereby, releases the University from any claims for loss or damage to persons or property that arise out of or are connected with the undersigned's use of the Chapel.

The undersigned agree(s) to defend, hold harmless and indemnify The University of Mississippi, its officers, employees and agents against all claims for loss, damage or injury sustained by persons or property arising out of or connected with the undersigned's use or occupancy of the University Chapel.

The undersigned is/are completely responsible for the facilities and property and assume(s) liability for any and all damages to the Chapel or other University property, including personal property, that may occur as a result of the use of the Chapel pursuant to this agreement.
