Community & Service
"At the University of Mississippi, we have the opportunity and responsibility to move beyond the transformation of individual lives. We must purposefully participate in transforming our community, state, nation and world." - Chancellor Daniel W. Jones
The University of Mississippi is committed to transforming the state through service as outlined in the UM2020 Strategic Plan. This commitment to transformative service strengthens our community, state, and nation. Whatever your passion for making a difference in the world and the lives of others, you can find many opportunities at the University of Mississippi.
If you are interested in serving communities across North Mississippi or getting involved in the Lafayette-Oxford-University area, the Community Service Directory can help you get started.
To learn more about Transformation through Service, contact the McLean Institute for Public Service and Community Engagement, which seeks to make community engagement a distinctive part of the educational culture at the University of Mississippi through its work to fight poverty through education. Additionally, the Office of Volunteer Services coordinates and supports student organizations, leadership initiatives, and large-scale service events. Students and community members can also find volunteer opportunities with Volunteer Oxford.
The University of Mississippi community is also home to a rich and diverse array of cultural offerings, from ancient artifacts to priceless art. We are the leading experts in blues music and offer excellent entertainment at the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts. Our community plays a big role in making Ole Miss a treasured institution.
