Prerequisite: CE 411

Summary : Continuation of CE 411 considering more advanced topics in analysis of structural systems including:

Applications to the following civil engineering problems will be discussed:

In-class experiments will be performed using interactive graphics software and digital frequency analyzer instrumentation. Homework assignments will include both computer programming (Matlab, Fortran77, Quattro Pro) and use of interactive finite element software packages (Patran and Algor).

A midterm exam will cover selected material in the text and handouts, and a comprehensive final exam will cover all material presented during the course. Participation in and successful completion of in-class experiments will be evaluated. A separate sheet provides the intended schedule of the lectures, text readings, homework assignments, and exams.

Grading Basis:

Midterm Exam ......................................... 20 %
Final Exam (Comprehensive)................... 30 %
In-Class Experiments................................ 10 %
Homeworks (Incl. Programming).............. 40 %
