  1. Be on time, warmed-up and prepared for your lesson.
  2. Do not simply "not show up" at your appointed time. If for someimportant reason (such as illness, family emergency, or an official schoolactivity), you must miss a lesson, please notify me as soon as you knowthat you must be absent, and I will reschedule you. If you fail to notifyme in advance that you will be missing, or do not have a legitimate excuse,I will not be obliged to make up the missed lesson and your grade for thatweek will be an F.
  3. I do grade your progress throughout the course of the semester (feelfree to discuss your progress with me at any time). I will grade on howwell you prepare your assignments, and do require a set minimum amount ofliterature assigned (specified below) for a passing grade for eachregistration (see below). (i.e. 1) an acceptable level of performance, minimum amount of material = grade of C; 2) a good or very good level ofperformance on the minimum amount of material = B; 3) a very good level ofperformance on more than the minimum amount of material = A; 4) a poorlevel of performance on the minimum amount (or more) of material = D; 5)less than the minimum required amount of material = D or F, depending uponamount of material and the level of performance.) The majority (75%) ofyour final grade will be derived from your weekly lessons over the courseof the semester; however, your jury performance is also very important, asthis is the opportunity for faculty members other than myself to determineyour progress and offer comments. It is important to note that is possibleto receive a passing grade from the jury as well as for the semester, butstill be required (by the faculty jury) to repeat the current appliedlesson registration.
  4. The jury performance is your final examination for your appliedlessons. It is scheduled during the week of final exams, and is performedfor at least three Wind-Percussion-String Area faculty. It consists ofapproximately ten minutes (20 minutes for Performance majors) of music(etudes, solos, exercises, scales) representative of your work during thesemester. We will typically select the jury repertoire 2-4 weeks prior tothe jury date.
  5. See the attached "Scale and Arpeggio" requirements for the TRPT 100-322levels.
  6. Unless otherwise specified, the minimum number of etudes, specialstudies, solos (or solo movements), orchestral excerpts, etc. is eight (8)assigned per semester for TRPT 100, twelve (12) assigned per semester forTRPT 121-522 and 121-542, and fourteen (14) assigned per semester for TRPT621 and 622, and for 641 and 642.
