Wed, September 03, 2008 - Lecture: 'Can America Compete for 21st Century Jobs?'

Norman R. Augustine, who served as committee chair of the National Academies' "Rising Above the Gathering Storm," lectures on progress toward enhancing America's global competitiveness. The retired chairman and CEO of Lockheed Martin Corp., he serves on the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology and has served as undersecretary of the Army. He is a recipient of the National Medal of Technology.

Fri, September 05, 2008 - Omazing Race

For this two—day event, students participate in the Youth Ballot Campaign (modeled after SNCC's Freedom Ballot Campaign in 1964) to identify the issues that matter most to college students in response to the common perception of apathy among young voters. Then, teams of four participants compete in a campus scavenger hunt with political clues about Ole Miss.

Includes Friday night dinner and Saturday lunch. Students also have an opportunity to register online to vote in November elections.

Winners receive tickets to the Sept. 26 presidential debate at the Ford Center. Sponsored by One Mississippi.

The Lott Leadership Institute presents the final round of the Speech and Debate Competition, culminating a one—hour credit practicum preparing 50—75 Ole Miss students to research, write and argue the major domestic issues of the presidential campaign campaign. Winning team members receive a $$500 scholarship from the Dean of Students and tickets to the presidential debate.
