Campus Info
Classes at the University of Mississippi will be cancelled for the entire day of September 26, 2008, to accommodate the events surrounding the 2008 presidential debate.
Shuttle Service from Oxford Mall
The Ford Center parking lot will remain closed until after the debate. With this lot closing, we are losing access to 317 parking spaces. To ease the burden of this loss of parking spaces, the University will be providing a free shuttle from the Oxford Mall on Jackson Avenue.
The shuttle will run continuously from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. weekdays. It will have drop-off and pick-up points along Grove Loop, All American Drive, and Fraternity Row. Please look for signs that indicate shuttle pick-up and drop-off points. Faculty, staff, and students will all be able to use this lot and ride the shuttle. Please park in the designated area at the Oxford Mall.
In addition, there will be a second shuttle service running between the Coliseum parking lot and Paris-Yates Chapel.
As we start the academic year, please allow a little extra time when coming to campus. Thank you for your cooperation as we continue to prepare to be hosts to this historic event. We will keep you posted as additional developments become available.
Traffic and Parking Lot Changes

- Week of the Debate: Although we do not know the exact dates yet, the week of the debate there will be additional closings of roads and parking lots including the following: (a) Old Taylor Road, (b) Gertrude Ford Boulevard, (c) University Avenue (at the Mary Buie Museum), (d) The parking lot behind the Music Building, and (e) The new parking lot on Old Taylor Road.
- September 21: Due to the large number of satellite trucks and the logistics associated with debate-related events, the Circle and University Ave. will close at Grove Loop starting Sunday, September 21.
Please be aware that this is the best information available at this time. Circumstances may require the Commission on Presidential Debates, and subsequently us, to change these plans and closures.
