Campus Info
Classes at the University of Mississippi will be cancelled for the entire day of September 26, 2008, to accommodate the events surrounding the 2008 presidential debate.
I've Made Room!
If you are a student, faculty, or staff person who usually parks on campus, commit to making parking space available during the week of the debate by volunteering to park off campus. Nearly 600 people have already pledged to make room for our debate guests. Please consider helping in one of the following ways:
- Leave your car at home and be dropped off and picked up
- Leave your car at home and carpool with another faculty member, staff member or student
- Leave your car at home and walk or ride your bike, OR
- Take your car out of the resident parking lot and park it at a friend’s house off campus for the week
Shuttle Service from Oxford Mall
The week of the debate will present some parking and transportation challenges and inconveniences. Debate-related traffic will be directed to Old Taylor Road to provide the parking spaces required and to prevent that traffic from congesting our campus traffic. (See further information about road and lot closings.)
To ease the burden of this loss of parking spaces to our regular campus community, the University is providing a free shuttle from the Oxford Mall on Jackson Avenue.
The shuttle runs continuously from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. weekdays. It has drop-off and pick-up points along Grove Loop, All American Drive, and Fraternity Row. Please look for signs that indicate shuttle pick-up and drop-off points. Faculty, staff, and students are able to use this lot and ride the shuttle. Please park in the designated area (marked with white parking space lines) at the Oxford Mall.
There is also a second shuttle service running between the Coliseum parking lot and Paris-Yates Chapel.
As we start the academic year, please allow a little extra time when coming to campus. Thank you for your cooperation as we continue to prepare to be hosts to this historic event. We will keep you posted as additional developments become available.
