Sherri DeLashmit
knows a lot about hearts. She was following her own when she decided
to leave Cape Girardeau, Missouri, for Marshall County in 1980.
"My sweetheart - now my husband -
was transferred to Mississippi. So, I packed my things and transferred
from Southeast Missouri State University to Oxford to finish my
degree at The University of Mississippi." She and Reno DeLashmit
married that year.
DeLashmit said she is glad she listened
to her heart and, since then, she's made a career of encouraging
others to listen to and take better care of their hearts as well.
"Mississippi has been good to me and
I'm happy to be in a career that promotes healthy living and stresses
the importance of a proper diet and exercise," she said.
Director of Cardiovascular Services for
the Heart Care Center at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi
since 1991, DeLashmit has dedicated her life to keeping the hearts
of area residents strong. She said her UM degrees were essential
to her career path in the health care profession.
