School graduates 264 at commencement
Former Mississippi Governor William Winter addressed 1,692 graduates during The University of Mississippi's 150th commencement May 10. Winter urged graduates to pay back those who helped them get   where they are. After his address, Winter and his wife, Elise, received UM's Humanitarian Award for their work that "has improved human welfare in Mississippi as a result of their dedication to social reform."   The School of Applied Sciences held a mid-morning commencement ceremony for its 264 scholars at the Thomas N. Turner Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Center.

More than 200 graduates and guests attended an afternoon reception held at George Street University House. The reception was sponsored by the Applied Sciences Alumni Chapter, School of Applied Sciences, Ole Miss Alumni Association, and National Student Speech, Hearing, Language Association.

Members of the Ole Miss Handband performed "Wind Beneath My Wings" aas a tribute to the parents of graduating students. Amy Davis Rutherford of Brandon is congratulated by Chancellor Robert Khayat on her selection as class marshall for the School of Applied Sciences. Rutherford, a dietetics and nutrition major, is a member of Phi Kappa Phi academic honor society and the Student Dietetic Association.
