Study Abroad

In addition to the traditional long-term programs available at the university, the Department of Art offers a variety of short-term travel courses, each focused on a different metropolitan or regional destination. Typically, one or two of these courses are offered during each Intersession, Wintersession, and August-Abroad semesters. These courses are taught by departmental instructors for UM credit, and are opened to all UM students on a space-available basis. Courses are regularly offered in the following locations:

This course is a two week intensive on-site studio course that focuses on travel photography in Tanzania. The specific emphasis will be wildlife and cultural photography. Students will learn the basics of digital photography, camera mechanics, and camera functions while creating a portfolio of images that focus on one main area of interest. Additionally, students will learn about the cultural and ecological history of the host country, which will contribute to the image-making process.
