	undergraduate v how to apply art merit scholarship fall/spring visit days degrees/curriculum courses/study abroad artwork organizations	Undergraduate Degrees/Curriculum The Department of Art at the University of Mississippi is committed to preparing undergraduate students to excel in creative production, research, education, and service in the visual arts. Our programs begin with a basis in the liberal arts, which gives artists a wider understanding of the world. Ole Miss has the most comprehensive art program in the state, offering three baccalaureate degrees with several areas of concentration within the studio degrees. B.A. Degree - Art History The B.A. in Art History is a degree which offers a broad choice of courses in Western and non-Western art history, as well as unique courses in the arts, especially concerning Southern arts and architecture. B.A. Degree - Studio Art The B.A. degree in Studio Art is a broad degree based around a liberal arts education and focusing on studio art. (Students often choose to focus on graphic/web design with a minor in business, journalism, or computer science.) B.F.A. Degree - Studio Art Students seeking professional portfolios will pursue the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (B.F.A.) This degree allows for a special concentration in a particular field such as; ceramics, painting, printmaking, graphic design, imaging arts, or sculpture. Admission to the B.F.A. program is by competitive portfolio review after the student has completed 18 hours of studio art. B.F.A. Interviews are held mid-semester in the fall and spring. To apply: 1. Fill out an application and submit it to the art office with a current copy of your transcript. An interview time will then be arranged by the department secretary. 2. With the help of your advisor, choose work from each of your studio classes to present to the faculty. 3. Write an artist’s statement about your goals and the purpose of your visual work from which you will give a 5-minute presentation during the interview. 4. If granted entrance to the program, the student will participate in the B.F.A. Forum each semester until you are enrolled in thesis. Grades in Department of Art courses of less than a “C” will no be counted toward this degree.
