Letter to Prospective Students & Parents
The Academic Support Center’s mission is to offer professional, quality advising and support to The University of Mississippi community through efficient service, communication of university policies, and open collaboration with univers ity departments and support services in an effort to facilitate the educational experience. We place particular emphasis on the advisement of enrolled students without declared majors. Approximately one-third of first-time freshmen entering the university are undecided (have not declared a major). ASC advisers are knowledgeable about curriculum requirements for all undergraduate degrees and can help students explore possible majors while fulfilling lower-division requirements in order to ensure a timely g raduation. In addition, Academic Support Center advisers can help students learn about and take advantage of other support units on the UM campus.
Students must be advised before they are allowed to register for classes for that semester. We attempt to contact students who are classified as undecided via their olemiss email account and their local phone number. This is a courtesy off ered by this office. Students are able to contact us as well. We are open Monday through Friday from 8-5. There is always someone in the office to answer the phone.
The Academic Support Center’s Health Professions Advising office provides one-on-one advising, close tracking of students’ programs of study, and assistance with students’ professional school application portfolios. The Academic Support Ce nter at The University of Mississippi is committed to helping students achieve their professional goals in medicine, dentistry, nursing and allied health fields including cytotechnology, dental hygiene, health information management, medical technology, o ccupational therapy and physical therapy.
We offer other services as well. Please check out our Program and Services webpage. We hope that these years at Ole Miss are valuable ones for you and your son or daughter. Please contact us if you have questions about our services or any other services on campus.
