The University of Mississippi Wind Ensemble, conducted by David Willson, is the premiere wind band at the University. Consisting of fifty to sixty performers, the Wind Ensemble performs the very highest level of wind band literature. The Wind Ensemble consists of graduate students, music majors and non-majors and annually tours Mississippi High Schools.
The University of Mississippi Symphonic Band is conducted by Bill DeJournett. The Symphonic Band consists of ninety to one-hundred and twenty members and performs grade four and five literature. In 2007 the Symphonic Band performed a concert with famed composer Eric Whitacre in conjunction with the UM Choirs. The Symphonic Band consists of music majors and non-majors.
The University of Mississippi Concert band is for non music majors, music majors performing on secondary instruments, and conducting students. The concert band is intended as a laboratory experience for conducting students prior to student teaching.
