Biology Bootcamp---Step Up to BISC 160

14 - 18 August 2012
http://www.olemiss.edu/depts/biology/

Are you a freshman that is enrolled in BISC 160 for Fall 2012?
Do you want to learn study skills and habits that will help you in ALL your classes?
Do you want to get a head start on material covered in BISC 160?
Do you want to meet faculty and students from the Department of Biology and around the UM campus?
Are you ready to learn what YOU must do to be successful and how to work hard to achieve your goals during your freshman year and beyond?

If you are, then you are a perfect candidate for BIOLOGY BOOTCAMP
at the University of Mississippi!

Why:  Many students struggle with freshman biology---even students that have made       A’s in high school!  Bootcamp will provide the information and tools you need for BISC 160, but it does NOT guarantee learning or a good grade----those are up to YOU!

What:  UM Biology Bootcamp is a 4 day INTENSIVE program to prepare freshmen to succeed in BISC 160 and beyond.  It is modeled after a successful program at Louisiana State University (http://bios.lsu.edu).  In the LSU program, the percentage of Bootcamp participants that were on-track at the end of their second year was dramatically higher than students not attending the program.

What to Expect: Lectures, exams, test analysis & study skills workshops---all by faculty and staff from the UM Department of Biology and all concerning material covered in            freshman biology.  Experience what it is like to be taking a full load of classes with       exams and all the other activities of campus life---before actually taking the class.

Who: This program is ONLY for entering freshmen that are enrolled in BISC 160 & 161 for Fall 2012

When:  Move in your dormitory or Residential College room early,Tuesday morning 14 Aug! Bio Bootcamp begins Tuesday afternoon, 14 August in the Dept of Biology
Three full days of Bootcamp (Wed thru Friday, 15-17 August). The program ends after lunch social (including Biology Dept faculty and students) on Saturday 18 Aug. You must attend the entire Bootcamp (no late arrivals or early exits, unless by prior arrangement).

Where:  University of Mississippi campus, the week before fall classes begin.
Move in your dormitory or Residential College room early---Tuesday morning 14 Aug.

Cost:  $350 for the entire program includes:
Textbook for BISC 160, 161, 162 & 163 & a Student Response Clicker –a $150 value!
All meals.
All lectures, labs, seminars & workshops and all materials required.
