University of Mississippi Contractual Readmission Program
In order to support students during their first semester of readmission to the University following academic suspension or dismissal, The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning offers a semester-long course entitled EDLD 202, Fundamentals of Active Learning. EDLD 202 is coordinated by Dr. Susan Mossing and is offered through the cooperation of The Department of Leadership and Counselor Education.
EDLD 202, Fundamentals of Active Learning, is mandatory for students returning from academic suspension or dismissal. It is a 2-credit, z-grade (pass or fail) class that focuses on the individual learner and what it takes for him or her to be successful at the University of Mississippi. EDLD 202 is designed to facilitate change through the supportive environment of weekly meetings. Students will choose one of three meeting options: (1) Small support groups in which students learn from interactions with other EDLD 202 students and a group facilitator; (2) Individual counseling meetings in which students discuss personal issues that interfere with their academic performance; and (3) Individual coaching meetings that will focus on grades and attendance and will include monitored study periods. Students will also be invited to attend study skills workshops on time management, goal setting, note taking, reading for comprehension, preparing for exams, and learning styles. When requested, referrals will be made to other University support services such as Student Disabilities Services, Career Center, Writing Center, Counseling Center, or departmental advisors.
Students returning from academic suspension or dismissal are required to satisfactorily complete EDLD 202 during their first regular semester (Fall or Spring) of re-enrollment. Students will be prompted by the Campus Management System to register for EDLD 202 when they begin to schedule classes for Fall or Spring. Students are required to enroll in EDLD 202 until a passing grade is achieved. If students do not fulfill course requirements, they will earn a grade of F and will be required to enroll in EDLD 202 again the following semester. This requirement will be lifted once a passing grade has been recorded at the end of the semester.
