Graduate Instructor/Teaching Assistant Award

This $1000 award and “golden apple” trophy for exemplary instruction will be inaugurated in 2007-08 to recognize the importance of the teaching role performed by graduate students.

Date nominations due: March 1

Eligibility
Graduate instructors or teaching assistants who are currently teaching or have taught during the current year

Nominations
The graduate instructor or teaching assistant must be nominated by a department, a faculty member or a set of students in the nominee's class. Complete nomination packets should be sent to the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Selection Criteria

  • A nomination letter (limited to two pages). Please include specific detail that supports generalizations made about teaching excellence
  • A letter of recommendation (in addition to the nomination letter) from a department, class or set of students in a current or previous class taught by the nominee
  • A current resume or vita
  • A list of courses taught
  • A statement of the nominee's teaching philosophy
  • Any other evidence of distinguished teaching

The selection committee will consist of a subset of the advisory board of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the University Graduate Council, to be chosen by the Director of the Center and the Dean of the Graduate School. The selection committee will make a recommendation for the award to the Provost and the Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning.
