The University of Mississippi is a
four-campus enterprise with a $1 billion annual budget, a cache
of stellar academic and research programs, and facilities and grounds
second to none. The funding to support this complex enterprise comes
from several sources. Mississippi taxpayers contribute $68.3 million,
21 percent of the total. Part comes from $100 million received annually
for sponsored research. Alumni and friends give almost $50 million
annually. Interest earned on the proceeds of the sale of the university’s
forestlands has enabled UM to renovate historic buildings and professionally
landscape the campus.
