Celebration Weekend marks successful conclusion of the Commitment to Excellence Campaign and dedication of renovated Lyceum and new Paris-Yates Chapel and Peddle Bell Tower

A great university not only preserves and transmits knowledge, it also advances the frontiers of knowledge. The results shape our social and cultural fabric and spur economic growth. In the last decade, annual funding for research at UM has soared from $51.2 million to $114.2 million—a 123 percent increase. These external funds have helped to create, renovate and expand 30 major research centers on the Oxford campus alone. Important advances have been made in such diverse fields as acoustics, atmospheric and high-energy physics, cancer studies, the treatment of hypertension and tropical diseases, defense systems, remote sensing and space law, among many others. In the process, businesses and jobs are created, patents generated, historic sites are preserved, natural resources are protected, and lives are enriched.
