Celebration Weekend marks successful conclusion of the Commitment to Excellence Campaign and dedication of renovated Lyceum and new Paris-Yates Chapel and Peddle Bell Tower

The University of Mississippi has undergone a cultural metamorphosis that is breathtaking. It began with the chancellor’s public, oft-repeated assurance that Ole Miss would provide a welcoming, safe, open, friendly environment for everyone. The commemoration of the 40th anniversary of James Meredith’s enrollment in 2002 brought healing and reconciliation. Creation of the William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation institutionalized the healing process. And the adoption of a formal creed—literally cast in bronze and permanently displayed on the Lyceum lawn—proclaims that members of the Ole Miss family “… believe in respect for the dignity of each person.”
