The university, along with its schools, programs, and centers, has continued to receive national attention and accolades. These include:

  • UM was the highest-ranked public university in the five-state, mid-South region on the Forbes’ listing of "America’s Best Colleges." The list is part of the annual "America’s Best Colleges" section, which includes several rankings and data on 650 colleges and universities compiled by the Center for College Affordability and Productivity. Among SEC schools, only Vanderbilt University, University of Georgia, and University of Florida ranked higher.
  • UM was named to the Forbes “Top 20 Best College Buys.” The University of Mississippi and the University of Florida were the only SEC members to receive this prestigious designation.
  • UM is the only Mississippi university or college included in the prestigious “Fiske Guide to Colleges 2012,” a selective, subjective, and systematic look at institutions of higher learning in the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain, compiled by New York Times former education editor Edward Fiske.
  • The Patterson School of Accountancy was ranked as a Top 20 accounting school for the sixth consecutive year.
  • U.S. News and World Report placed the School of Business Administration at No. 83 in its annual ranking of nearly 1,800 undergraduate business programs. Also,’s national editorial review team ranked the school’s online MBA program 13th out of 133 competing online MBAs nationwide.
  • U.S. News and World Report ranked the School of Education’s graduate programs in the Top 100 nationally.
  • The Medical Center was recognized nationally in the U.S. News and World Report “Best Hospitals” rankings in the specialties of cancer, nephrology, and orthopaedics.
  • The Medical Center ranked first nationally in adult patient satisfaction among the more than 100 academic medical center members of the University Health System Consortium. The same organization rated University Hospitals the cleanest among its peers.
  • The UM Medical Center received an excellent accreditation review by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for the overall institution, as well as for the School of Dentistry and programs in cytotechnology and physical therapy.
