Course Objectives & Outcomes

Objective: To equip students with basic professional development skills.

Desired Outcomes:

  1. Understand the engineering code of ethics and the ethical difficulties that may be encountered on the job.

  2. Describe the characteristics of good team work, including the importance of setting goals.

  3. Present findings, orally and in written form, in a logical and coherent manner.

  4. Use spreadsheets and MathCad to solve engineering problems and to analyze experimental data.

  5. Analyze experimental data using fundamental concepts of statistics.

Overall Course Grading

Homework 20%
Group Project 50%
Oral Presentation 15%
Final Exam 15%

On ALL work, I am more interested in the process than the answer. Therefore, I want to see ALL of your work. The correct answer, with no apparent or understandable path to that answer, will NOT get you any points. A wrong answer, caused by a dumb mistake, in a clearly correct procedure will cost you very few points. If I can't figure out what you are doing, I take off a lot.

The grading scale will be 90/80/74/68.
