Dr. Carlos V. Alonso works for the USDA Agricultural
Research Service where he currently serves as Research Leader for
the Channel and Watershed Processes Research Unit at the ARS National
Sedimentation Laboratory in Oxford, MS. His research interests include
sedimentary fluid dynamics, sediment transport, response of alluvial
channels to instream perturbations, and computational modeling.
Dr. Alonso received his Ph.D. from the Iowa Institute of Hydraulics
Research at the University of Iowa, and prior to joining ARS he
taught civil engineering during 1971-1974 at the University of University.
He held an adjunct professor appointment in the Civil Engineering
faculty at Colorado State University in 1984-1993. Dr. Alonso has
authored or co-authored over 150 technical articles, reports, book
chapters, and presentations. He has participated in AGU and ASCE
technical committees, served as ASCE Associated Editor, won the
ASCE 1997 Hydraulic Engineering Achievement Award, Mississippi Section,
and received several USDA Service Merit awards.
