Dr. Cheng

Belated congratulations on your appointment to the CE Chair.  I have heard only encouraging comments on your leadership so far.  I hope to meet you soon.  I wanted to let you know I graduated in December 1999 and I am currently a consulting engineer with Williford, Gearhart & Knight, Inc.  We have 4 offices currently in the states of Mississippi and Alabama.  Our work ranges from Public Facility Upgrades (Water/Sewer) to State Aid Road and Bridge Design.  We are the primary engineering consultants for many Clients from Multi-County co-operatives to small water associations.

In my time with WGK I have worked on a wide range of projects and am confident that my education at Ole Miss prepared me for the wide range of skills necessary to work in a multi-faceted professional environment.  The liberal arts education at Ole Miss prepares Engineers for the accountant/marketing/management part of our jobs that we rely on as much as the technical practice of engineering.

Please know I am available to you or to your staff should you need any help in promoting the Department.

Sincerely

Acey Roberts E.I.

Dr. Mullen

I enjoyed seeing you again at the Mississippi Engineering Society's Winter Meeting in Natchez, MS.  As we discussed I am always a proponent of the Engineering School at Ole Miss and I am eager to help advance the University's prominence in this State and the Southeast.

If I could make a suggestion to help in the retention of students at the undergraduate level, I would have appreciated as an undergraduate meeting engineers from different work environments to get a better understanding of my work opportunities after graduation.  I would like to see engineers from the different regulatory agencies, (MDOT, DEQ, Dept of Health, ect.), as well as engineers in private practice from large firm to small.  I don't believe that many students really know what opportunities exist outside the College and having a chance to meet and talk with employers will give the younger undergraduates a path to follow.

I know it would be a challenge to fit this into a classroom but perhaps the student ASCE chapter could sponsor this as a lecture series.

Again, it was good to see you and if I can ever help, just let me know.

Sincerely,

Acey Roberts E.I.
