I would like to share with you two exciting news concerning our alums:

1. NASA announced that Pete Rodriguez, Ph.D., 1977, has been named director
of the Test Laboratory in the Engineering Directorate at NASA's Marshall
Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. His appointment is part of a recent
realignment intended to position the Marshall Center to better implement the
Vision for Space Exploration. See link

2. US Corps of Engineers at Huntsville announced that Michelle Crull, BSCE
1982, MSCE 1985, (Ph.D. 1989 Vanderbilt) is a part of the team receiving the
2004 Coastal America Partnership Award.  See link

Another good news: An ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and
Technology) team visited the School of Engineering for the evaluation of
renewal of accreditation. The initial oral reports received indicate that
all five department under evaluation will receive the full 6-year
accreditation. Our experience is that rarely all departments pass. So this
is quite a feat under the leadership of Dean Kai-Fong Lee.
