Dear Ole Miss Civil Engineering Alumni and
Friends,
I would like to use this opportunity to share with
you the great news about the accomplishment of a recent
graduate.
You probably know that this week is
the National Engineers Week. The week is celebrated by all kinds of
activities around the nation, including at the School of Engineering. (Thursday
morning is the Engineering Career Day, sponsored by the School of Engineering.
You are welcome to drop in.)
The National Engineers Week annually presents
New Faces of Engineering. Fourteen "new faces" are honored for 2005. One person
each was nominated by the various affiliated societies. The one new face
selected nationally representing the ASCE, the American Society of Civil
Engineers, the society representing our profession, is Lucy
Phillips.
Lucy is a 2002 graduate of Ole Miss Civil
Engineering. The criteria for selection, according to the national Engineers
Week web site, are:
"The New Faces of Engineering program highlights the interesting and
unique work of young engineers and the resulting impact on society. Young
engineers two to five years out of school are the focus of this recognition
program. Engineers Week sponsoring societies nominated young working engineers
from among their membership."
Please come to the web
site:
for more information. Please be
sure to click Lucy's bio to see her amazing accomplishment in two years. Lucy's
performance is a great testimonial of the civil engineering program's emphasis
on leadership education. (Our program is the only civil engineering
program that I am aware of requiring a Leadership class, organized by
Dean Kai-Fong Lee, in the curriculum.) Her national exposure also
provides the civil engineering department at Ole Miss the national
attention.
Please join me
to congratulate Lucy for her great accomplishment!
Alex
