Dr. Victor F. Medina is an Environmental Engineer
and a Principal Investigator with the Environmental Laboratory with
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development
Center in Vicksburg, MS. Dr. Medina conducts research on prevention,
treatment, and cleanup of environmental contamination at military
facilities. Typical military contaminants include explosives (trinitrotoluene
and RDX), heavy metals (lead), and other inorganic compounds (depleted
uranium and perchlorate). Treatment approaches studied by Dr. Medina's
group include stabilization, phytoremediation, and bioremedation.
In addition, Dr. Medina's team is conducting studying on adopting
environmental technologies for force protection and homeland security
applications. Victor received his B.S. in Geology from the University
of California, Los Angeles and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Environmental
Engineer from the University of Southern California. He is also
a registered Professional Engineer in Mississippi.
