Eta Sigma Phi is the national collegiate honor society for students of Greek and/or Latin, founded in 1914 at the University of Chicago. (Go to the national web page of Eta Sigma Phi.) Our members work to promote interest in Greece and Rome through the study of the Greek and Latin languages and literatures, as well as the history, art and architecture of these ancient cultures. The Lambda Chapter of Eta Sigma Phi at the University of Mississippi is the third oldest active chapter and one of the largest. Students with a 3.0 grade point average in Latin or Greek are nominated by the faculty for membership in the Spring semester. Anyone wishing further information may contact the department.
The Eta Sigma Phi Prizes in Greek and in Latin are presented annually at the university's Honors Day Convocation to our outstanding students. (Some Past Recipients of the Eta Sigma Phi Prizes at the University of Mississippi, and Some Past Winners in National Translation Contests) |
