
Graduate assistantships (which require part-time teaching or other assigned departmental duties and provide up to $9,400 per year for M.A. candidates) and University non-service fellowships are available. Graduate School Honors Fellowships of $2,000 which can be added to a graduate assistantship are also available to qualified candidates on a competitive basis. The Robert L. Lipsey, Jr. and James C. Rubright Scholarship provides up to $2,000 additional support for graduate students. Graduate assistants who receive stipends of at least $1,800 per semester are eligible to receive a waiver of tuition. .The Department of Classics offers the Way, Jackson and Leavell Awards for the Study of the Classics established by Robert N. Leavell, Alumni Association Professor of Law Emeritus at the University of Georgia. This scholarship honors three long-time Latin teachers in Oxford: Dr. Evelyn Way former Chair of the Department, Miss Harriet Jackson and Mrs. Grace Farley Leavell who taught at University High School. The scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded annually to a Classics major on the basis of academic excellence in high school or college studies in Classics. In addition, the University of Mississippi offers the following scholarships for incoming freshmen: National Merit/National Achievement Semifinalist and Academic Excellence Scholarships. The National Merit/National Achievement Semifinalist Scholarship provides $4,350 per year which includes a free housing scholarship valued at $1,600 per year based on double occupancy in campus housing (for in-state students). Out-of-state students receive the same benefits, but receive a waiver of out-of-state tuition making a total of $7,170 per year. Academic Excellence Scholarships provide varying amounts according to the following schedule: ACT score of 32 or higher and GPA of 90% or higher: $2,750 per year (in-state) or $5,570 (out-of-state); ACT score of 30-31 and GPA of 90% or higher: $2,000 per year (in-state) or $4,820 per year (out-of-state); ACT of 28-29 and 90% or higher GPA: $1,250 per year (in-state) or $4,070 per year (out-of-state); ACT 26-27 and GPA of 90% or higher: $1,000 per year (in-state) or $3,820 per year (out-of-state); ACT of 24-25 and GPA of 90% or above: $750 per year (in-state or out-of-state).
