The World Class Teaching Program at the University
of Mississippi is assisting school systems and teachers to understand
National Board Certification,
which is dedicated to defining, identifying, and recognizing accomplished
teaching in the U.S.A. National Board Certification is a demonstration
of teaching practice as measured against high and rigorous standards.
Offered on a voluntary basis, the advanced system of National Board
Certification complements, but does not replace, state licensing.
The Mississippi legislature has approved an annual salary supplement
of $6,000 for teachers who achieve national certification.
The University of Mississippi World Class Teaching Program provides
Overview Sessions at school districts
to help teachers understand the entire National Board Certification
process as well as Standards Study Workshops
for teachers who are seriously considering engaging in the process.
Mentoring sessions for teachers who
are involved in the National Board Process are offered twice a month
in Oxford, Southhaven, and Tupelo. Pre-candidacy workshops are offered February through May.
