A Message from the DeanThe oldest engineering school in the State of Mississippi, we provide six academic departments - Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer and Information Science, Electrical Engineering, Geology/Geological Engineering, Mechanical Engineering - offering Bachelor's, Master's, and Ph.D. degrees, and seven research centers, many of which are nationally recognized. We have remained relatively small, emphasizing quality instruction rather than quantity of graduates. Our low student to teacher ratio allows personal interaction between students and our talented, dedicated faculty. Our undergraduate curriculum has a long tradition of providing a firm grounding in engineering fundamentals and principles, engineering design, as well as a broad based education drawing on the Ole Miss liberal arts tradition. Our graduates have distinguished themselves in the engineering profession. Many of our alumni are leaders in industry, government and academia. We are committed to continue a heritage of educating leaders in engineering. In the last five years, we have seen an increase in our undergraduate enrollment, research funding, and scholarly publications. Our faculty continued to receive national and international recognition, and our graduates have been successful in their careers and in graduate school. We are also making great strides in improving the School's facilities. In two years time, we will have one building completely renovated, and a new building to house the Center for Manufacturing Excellence, which is being established to serve the Manufacturing Industries of Mississippi as a result of Toyota building a plant near Tupelo. Our website is currently being revised to provide a more comprehensive source of information for current and prospective students and their parents, current and prospective faculty and staff, employers, alumni and friends, and research partners. In the meantime, I encourage you to visit the campus in Oxford and see for yourself what makes the University of Mississippi a great American public university. Kai-Fong LeeDean October 2007 |
