David W. Arnold, Ph.D., P.E.David Arnold retired December 31, 2001, as Senior Vice President - Technical Group for Mississippi Chemical Corporation (MCC) in Yazoo City, Mississippi. MCC produces nitrogen-containing chemicals (ammonia, ammonium nitrate, urea, nitrogen solutions and nitric acid) at facilities located at Yazoo City, MS; Donaldsonville, LA and Point Lisas, The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (a 50 / 50 joint venture operation); diammonium phosphate at Pascagoula, MS; and muriate of potash from underground mining and surface refining operations near Carlsbad, NM. These products are sold to agricultural and industrial customers, both domestic and export. Annual sales in 2001 exceeded $500 million, and MC had approximately 1430 employees. As Sr. VP - Technical Group, ARnold wa responsible for research and development, engineering and construction, and environmental programs management for all MCC facilities. In addition to the operations described above, he was instrumental in MCC's project to design and construct a mechanical pulp newsprint mill at Grenada, MS. Arnold is a chemical engineering graduate of the University of Mississippi and holds Master's and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering from Iowa State University. He is a registered professional engineer in Mississippi, a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Mississippi Engineering Society, and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He is a past member of the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. He is a past president of the Mississippi Engineering Society. Arnold's community activities include past president of the Yazoo County Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Public Service Commission of Yazoo City, past chairman of the Yazoo City Planning and Zoning Commission and past president of Junior Achievement of Yazoo City. He has also been active in statewide programs for the improvement of mathematics education in Mississippi. An active alumnus of the University of Mississippi, Arnold is past president of the Yazoo County Ole Miss Alumni Club, the Engineering Alumni Chapter, and the University of Mississippi Alumni Association. He is also past chairman of the Woods Order and the School of Engineering Advisory Board and is currently serving a second term on the Engineering Advisory Board. Arnold is a member of Tau Beta Pi. He was named Engineer of Distinction by the University of Mississippi engineering Alumni Chapter in 1989, and received the Professional Achievement Citation in Engineering from Iowa State University's College of Engineering in 1994. He is a native of Tunica County, MS and is married to Barbara Daves of Greenwood, Ms. He is a veteran of the U.S. Navy. |
