The plan calls for the creation of a new engineering complex to include major renovations to the Old Chemistry Building, the renovation of Carrier and Anderson halls, and construction of a colonnade connecting Carrier and Old Chemistry. The improvements will add approximately 60,000 square feet of space and create a signature presence for the School of Engineering on the Circle.

Private gifts also will be used to create an endowment in each of the four departments that currently do not have endowments -- civil, chemical, electrical, and mechanical -- and enhance the endowments in geology/geological engineering and computer and information science. These endowments will provide for annual equipment upgrades, travel funds for student educational opportunities, professorships, and faculty development.

Up-front EQUIPMENT IMPROVEMENTS include

  • upgrading the mechanical engineering machine shop
  • improving the undergraduate chemical engineering laboratory
  • upgrading electrical engineering laboratories
  • improving the geology/geological engineering specimen lab and mineral enhancement
  • upgrading the materials testing lab and the soils, concrete, and structure lab in civil engineering
  • creating a computer classroom and a distance-learning classroom in the school

RESOURCES will be provided to EACH DEPARTMENT for FACULTY and STUDENT SUPPORT, including

  • endowment for professorships
  • endowment for graduate fellowships
  • endowment for student travel and support
  • endowment for technical support and maintenance of computer labs
  • research facility planning and public awareness campaign
