Special Requirements for Transfer Students

In addition to the procedures required for admission for all students (such as the application for admission, health record, etc.) certain additional requirements are necessary for transfer students so that their past academic record can be made a part of their Ole Miss academic record. Credit for coursework taken elsewhere will often lighten you academic load in pursuit of your Ole Miss Engineering degree.

The Office of Admissions will need an official copy of your transcripts from every institution where you have done college work. Contact your former institution (usually the Registrar's Office) and ask each one to send an official transcript to the Office of Admissions at the University of Mississippi, University MS 38677. All institutions of higher learning do this all the time, so it is a routine request.

When you arrive on campus at the University of Mississippi, the Assistant Dean of the School of Engineering will evaluate your transcript and record the credit that you will receive. Credit for all college work except vocational courses will be routinely granted. However, credit toward the degree you are pursuing may be different. The office of the Assistant Dean is located in Carrier 120. He/she can perform this evaluation function from a copy of your transcript, so bring copies with you at the time of registration for your first semester.

After evaluation of your transcript, you will be assigned a permanent advisor from the faculty of the department where you wish to study. That is, if you enroll in the curriculum of chemical engineering, your advisor will be a member of the faculty in the Department of Chemical Engineering. You should see your assigned advisor as soon as possible after the transcript evaluation process.

Meanwhile, the Registrar's office will record your transferred credit onto your Ole Miss transcript. The credit must be printed onto your official Ole Miss transcript before graduation.
