Graduate Application Information

The application deadline for admission to the M.A., and Ph.D. programs in English is January 15 of each year. The application deadline for admission to the M.F.A. program is February 1 of each year. The following materials must be submitted before that deadline:

1. Online application form and fee.

2. Official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate course work attempted.

3. Official G.R.E. General test scores. (Verbal, Quantitative, Analytical.)

Items 1-3 should be submitted directly to the Graduate School.

4. Unofficial copy of transcript.

5. Self-reporting GRE scores (these may be noted in your cover letter).

6. At least three letters of recommendation.

7. A 10-20-page writing sample.

8. A statement of purpose: an extended letter of introduction explaining where graduate study in English fits into your career plans and personal goals, and why you are interested specifically in the English department at the University of Mississippi. This is also the place to indicate whether you wish to be considered for a department teaching fellowship, our primary source of funding for our graduate students.
