Health and Safety

The staff of the Department of Health and Safety (DHS) would like to welcome you to the University of Mississippi. We are located in the Health & Safety Building. We are your source for safety information, training materials, spill response, environmental issues and hazardous materials disposal on the Oxford Campus. If you have any questions, need some hazardous materials removed for disposal, or require some material shipped half way around the world, don't hesitate to call the Department of Health and Safety. Remember, only Department of Health and Safety personnel are authorized to provide these services to the University community.

On the Oxford campus of the University of Mississippi, the DHS is responsible for compliance with and enforcement of the regulations of the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA), the Department of Transportation (DOT), the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MSDEQ) , and the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) radiological division.

Specific regulations and policies, are available on the Internet. DHS also provides the safety training which is required of faculty, staff, graduate students, and some undergraduates who work with biological, chemical and/or radioactive materials as well as those who use radiation generating devices.
