According the National Restaurant Association, foodservice sales will reach $566 billion in 2009, and equal 4% of the U.S. gross domestic product. The restaurant industry employs an estimated 13 million people, or 9% of the U.S. workforce. The restaurant industry is expected to add 1.8 million jobs over the next decade, with employment reaching 14.8 million by 2019.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there will be steady growth in travel which opens good job opportunities for lodging managers. The American Hotel and Lodging Association reported that there are currently 48,062 hotel properties in the United Sates (those with more than 15 rooms) that generate sales of approximately $140 billion annually.
