Take note of parent-specific financial aid programs that are available through Ole Miss.
Students whose parents are graduates of the University of Mississippi, or parents that attended at least 6 full time semesters (fall/spring), are eligible to receive a Non-Resident Alumni Award. This award will pay $1500 per parent, per year and is renewable for up to 8 semesters total.   Students whose parents are full time employees of the University of Mississippi are eligible to receive a tuition scholarship worth up to 50% of the cost of current tuition. Those parents who began employment before 1977 are eligible for a 100% tuition scholarship.   While Federal Student Stafford Loans are the lowest cost federal student loans to initially pursue, Federal Parent PLUS Loans provide parent borrowers with good credit histories funds to supplement the educational expenses of their dependent undergraduate children. Annual eligibility is limited to the cost of attendance minus other financial aid the student receives. While financial need is NOT a requirement for the Parent PLUS Loan program, students must file a FAFSA to establish eligibility for both federal Stafford Loans and Parent PLUS Loans.
Since July 1, 2008, federal legislation now allows parents to choose to defer payments on a PLUS loan until six months after the date the student ceases to be enrolled at least half time. Accruing interest can either be paid by the parent borrower monthly or quarterly, or be capitalized quarterly. In addition Special Provision for Parents Delinquent on Mortgage Payments have been made that will allow lenders to consider parents eligible for PLUS loans even if, during the period January 1, 2007, through December 31, 2009, the parents are or were:
Sign up for PLUS Direct Deposit - If Parent PLUS Loan proceeds are credited to the student’s Bursar bill and there are excess funds, this amount is forwarded to the parent borrower (unlike all other aid, which is given to the student). The most efficient way to deliver your funds is through Direct Deposit.
