Application Procedures

First time applicants should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit it to the federal processor. Be sure to list The University of Mississippi and our Title IV school code of 002440 in Step 5 of the FAFSA.

Renewal applicants should receive a FAFSA renewal notice from the U.S. Department of Education or a PIN to complete it on the web. If you do not receive this information by February 1, follow the instructions for first-time applicants.

Application Priority Dates

Since many of the financial aid programs have limited funding, applicants with completed application files on March 15 will be given priority in consideration. A completed application file means our office has received the results of the FAFSA. To ensure that the FAFSA results reach us by March 15, you should mail your completed FAFSA to the federal processor by February 15. Since awards can only be made to students who are enrolled or accepted for admission to the University, entering students should submit all admission materials to the Admissions Office by March 15.

Responses to Expect

Approximately one week after you submit your FAFSA to the federal processor, you will receive a Federal Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR will reflect your expected family contribution (EFC), which will be used to determine your eligibility for financial aid.

Carefully check the information on the SAR. If corrections are required, follow the instructions for filing the corrected information. If no corrections are needed, retain the SAR with your other financial aid records. You do not need to send the SAR to us. If you listed The University of Mississippi's code in Step 5 of the FAFSA, we will receive the SAR information electronically from the federal processor.

Once we have received your FAFSA information electronically from the federal processor and confirmation of your admission (if you are an entering student), we will determine your eligibility for aid. If you are eligible, we will notify you via your Ole Miss e-mail account with details regarding your awards.
