Introduction to Blackboard
Today's students demand new ways of learning.
Blackboard is the easy-to-use Web application to help you meet
their needs by putting materials and teaching online. Blackboard
is available for all instructors at Ole Miss. You don't even need
to know HTML. Session will cover an overview of Blackboard's unique
features: course announcements and calendar, online grade book,
advanced assessment capabilities, student tracking, online file
exchange, and much more.
Using
the Blackboard Gradebook
An in-depth look at the Blackboard Gradebook.
Learn to enter grades quickly, weight grades by item or category,
download grades to an Excel spreadsheet, upload grades from an
Excel spreadsheet, and more.
Overview of Academic
Technology @ UM
This session will discuss online services available
for UM faculty. Examples include WebID, Online Grade Submission,
Class Roll Downloads, Advising Information, Online Faculty Activity
Report, etc.
PowerPoint for
Beginners
This seminar will cover the basics of using
PowerPoint to create multimedia presentations.
Using Excel to Manage
a Gradebook
This session will teach participants how to
set up a gradebook using excel. Topics include: formulas, assigning
percentages, the usefulness of the count and sum functions, and
assigning letter grades based on "Lookup" functions.
Statistics Starter
A survey of Math and statistical packages generally
available to the UM academic and research community. (SAS, SPSS,
IMSL, Matlab, Limdep, Lisrel, etc.)
Flash
This one hour guided tour will show users a
basic overview of Macromedia Flash, a complex animation and programming
tool often used in creating websites. The workshop will show users
how to use animation and interactivity features appropriately
and will give a basic understanding of how Flash works.
Virus Free
Computing
This seminar will cover preventing virus infections,
installing critical Windows security updates, personal firewalls,
anti-virus software, and identifying malicious software.
E-mail to Groups
“E-mail to Groups” is a tool that
allows departments to send e-mail messages to groups of students
and employees based on demographic characteristics, e.g., students
in a particular program of study or employees in a specific department.

PowerPoint for Advanced
Users
Learn to create custom backgrounds and slide
layouts, insert movie and sound files, use advanced animation
techniques, and output your presentation to html.
Adobe Acrobat
This seminar will cover the basics of using
Adobe Acrobat to create PDF files that can be distributed across
platforms without altering fonts or graphics. Participants will
also learn to add form fields to PDF files. This is a beginning
basic level seminar.
Faculty Test Scoring
Grade tests the easy way. Learn to use the
OpScan test scanner to quickly grade multiple-choice tests and
surveys.
Mathematica
for Beginners
Participants will learn simple and basic mathematical
operations with Mathematica, which include, but are not limited
to:
finding Sin and Cos of an angle, finding various functions through
Mathematica's Mater Index, integration of simple functions, obtaining
simple statistics such as mean and standard of deviation, solving
simple linear equations, etc.
Dreamweaver
A hands on introduction to Dreamweaver, an
advanced website editing and management program, covering its
interface, set-up, basic page creation, and web site tools.
Using
Clickers in the Classroom
Would you like to increase class participation,
receive instantaneous assessment in class, and increase daily
attendance? Dr. Tamar Goulet will show participants a hands-on
approach to increasing student involvement using PRS RF-Clickers.
Managing
E-mail Mailing Lists
E-mail mailing lists are useful tools for sending
out course announcements, organizational announcements, or facilitating
online discussions within classes or campus organizations. Learn
how to request, administer, and use mailing lists at Ole Miss.
Imaging and Scanning
Basics
Ever wonder how your colleagues got those images
onto their computer? Come to this seminar and find out. Topics
will include: flatbed scanning, 35mm slide/negative scanning,
and jpeg vs. gif image formatting.
Mail Call - Tips and Tricks
for Making the Most of E-mail
This seminar will present an overview of e-mail
services available to faculty at the University of Mississippi,
including the campus Web-Mail system. Topics such as mail forwarding,
vacation responses, and filtering will be discussed.
Introduction to High Performance
Computing and the MCSR
A survey of MCSR’s high performance computing
systems and applications (Cray and Origin Supercomputers, Beowulf
Cluster Server, Gaussian, NWChem, Patran, Abaqus, Fortran, C/C++,
MPI, Matlab, etc.).
Basics
of Adobe Photoshop
In this session, participants will learn the
basics of editing images in Adobe Photoshop. Topics to be covered
include: basic image manipulation, changing the size and resolution
of an image, cropping and rotating an image, applying color correction,
using filters such as blur and sharpen, cleaning up old photographs,
selection techniques, and using layers.
Introduction
to UNIX/LINUX
Unix/Linux is designed to be fast and easy
to use. In this introductory workshop you will learn how to accomplish
the basics using this operating system, including common tasks
such as shell programming. Other topics that will be included:
command line interfaces, text editors, and more on the Unix/Linux
operating system architecture.
Capturing and
Editing Digital Video using iMovie
This seminar will show how to convert video
clips into a digitized format suitable for viewing in a presentation
or over the Internet. Basic movie editing skills will also be
shown.
Using Multimedia
Classrooms on the UM Campus
Learn how to use the multimedia equipment located
in various classrooms across campus.
Creating DVD's
Participants in this workshop will learn to
create a DVD. Topics include: creating the appropriate video format,
setting up menus, applying menu backgrounds, etc.
