Is there a shorter way to get to that security page?
You may go directly to the Additional Security Application / App Passwords page.
How are special email accounts going to be handled?
All special accounts with an @olemiss.edu email address will be treated in the same way as regular employee accounts. (This does not pertain to email aliases which are not actual accounts.) Special accounts will be enabled for two-step authentication on the same day as the account owner's own email account is enabled. The same steps must be followed for each email account.
Which method of notification is easiest?
Setting up the Microsoft Authentication app is probably more difficult at first, but it is far easier to use on a regular basis.
How do I see the app password I created earlier?
App passwords are displayed only once when they are created. If you did not note it or use it right then, you'll need to create a new one at the Additional Security Application / App Passwords page.
The app password I copied isn't working.
The "copy password to clipboard" button doesn't work for some browsers, so you may want to simply highlight the password and paste it, or re-type it manually.
I'm on the Additional Security Application page but I don't see any app passwords!
We agree that Microsoft has done a terrible job of this, but the link for app passwords is in big gray letters at the top of the page that makes them look like part of the page title.
What if I don't want to save my password for my email client? I don't want to enable an app password because other people sometimes use my machine.
For any scenario involving computers that you are not the sole user, you should avoid using an installed email client. Instead, use the Outlook Web App and close the browser when you leave the machine. You may also opt to set up a different account on the computer so that others do not have access to your files and programs.
What if I don't have my phone with me?
If you've set up your account so that one of the methods of authentication can be via text message, you may be able to sign into your phone service's website so that you can read a text message when it arrives. AT&T Messages is one such service, and Verizon Messages is another. Check with your phone company to see what options they offer.
How will I be notified on the date my account is enabled?
If you do not use OWA to check email, you may not receive any notification. The old password is still enabled and your email clients should work as normal. If you do nothing, you'll be reminded after about a week to go through the instructions. At a future date, two-step authentication will be enforced for your account and you will be unable to check email again until you've set up your account.
I've been prompted several times to enter my password and security code. What's wrong?
We have seen this happen with some Mac Outlook client users who elect to be texted a security code. While we have not determined the cause of the problem, we believe switching to using the Microsoft Authenticator app can solve it.
The office phone number it shows is not my actual number.
Office phone numbers are pulled from employee records in SAP. You may update your office phone number in the Employee Self Service area of myOleMiss. Note, however, that this will also update your number listed in the public employee directory. If you do not wish for your direct number to be displayed in the directory, you should not use this option. Use the alternate phone option instead.
