Oxford Depot Collection (MUM00602), Archives and Special Collections, J.D. Williams Library, The University of Mississippi
The original Oxford, Miss. railroad depot was built in the 1850s and destroyed in the Civil War. The current depot building dates to 1872. Passenger trains traveled through the depot until 1941, when passenger service was discontinued. Freight continued to pass through the Oxford depot until 1982, when the southbound track out of Oxford was officially abandoned.
The depot was purchased by the University of Mississippi in 1983. It currently serves as a space for lectures and other public events.
