Born Marcia Marie Mullen, Dardanelle Hadley (1917-1997) had a long career as a jazz pianist. She was born in Avalon, MS and grew up in Winona, MS. After studying music at Louisiana State University, she played piano for local radio stations, but quickly made a career performing with various jazz ensembles in Chicago and New York.
