Historical Note
Percy Mayfield (b. 12 August 1920, Minden, LA, d. 11 August 1984, Los Angeles, CA) was a talented songwriter and singer. He wrote and arranged many works for Ray Charles, of which "Hit the Road Jack" is probably the most famous. His "Please Send Me Someone to Love" has been covered by a number of artists.

Collection contains correspondence, funeral programs, obituaries, photographs, memorabilia, and ephemera related to the life of Percy Mayfield. These materials are dated 1977-1984.
