Databases

ERIC (Through EBSCOhost)
ERIC, sponsored by the US Department of Education, is the premier national bibliographic database of education literature. This is a great resource for art education materials.

ERIC consists:
Resources in Education, which covers the document literature, consisting of research reports, curriculum and teaching guides, conference papers, and books.

Current Index to Journals in Education, which covers published journal literature from over 775 periodicals.

The database also includes the full text of ERIC Digest Records. These one- to two-page records, written specifically for teachers, administrators, and other practitioners, provide an overview of information on a given topic and supply references with more detailed information.

Primary Search (Through Ebscohost)
Primary Search provides full text for more than 60 popular, magazines for
elementary school research. All full text articles included in the database
are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles), and full text information dates as far back as 1990.

Middle Search Plus (Through Ebsohost)
Middle Search Plus provides full text for more than 150 popular,
magazines for middle and jr. high school research. All full text articles
included in the database are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles), and full text information dates as far back as 1990. Middle Search Plus also contains 91,600 biographies, 75,000 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 107,135 photos, maps and flags.

Internet Resources

Artsednet (Getty Museum)
The Getty Museum's art education website. The site includes lesson plans, image galleries and exhibitions, and a liserv. Lesson plans are sorted by grade level.

Art:21 (PBS)
The Art:21 series and its educational materials have been developed to familiarize teachers and students with the work of living artists, to provoke critical thinking and problem solving, to inspire new ways of teaching and learning, to present creative role models, and to bridge diverse subject areas through the study and appreciation of contemporary art. The site has an online lesson library, student art projects, and teaching materials.

NGA Classroom (National Gallery of Art)
Lessons based on the National Gallery of Art's collections. The site contains lessons plans and interactive programs.

Smithsonian Education (Smithsonian Institution)
Lesson plans for Art & Design and a search for educational websites, publications and products, and field trips.
