Search for a Book in the Catalog

This tutorial will demonstrate how to perform a simple search by subject
Subject Search
The subject search can be found in the left navigational column of the University of Mississippi Libraries Catalog
Select Topic
Clicking on the subject search link directs you to a search box. Enter a subject term related to the material you are looking for. You will then be taken to the search results screen, if your topic does not exist, you will be given presented with closely related topics. Clicking on a topic will take you to a list of items which relates to your search terms.
Choose Book
Your search will result in a list of possible items. Choose the book that best matches the topic you are looking for.
Catalog Record
Selecting a book will take you to the catalog record. In the record you will find the location of the book, call number and status.
Subject Headings
A list of subject headings are also found. Click on a subject heading that relates best to your topic. This will bring up other books with the same subject heading.
After selecting the subject term, the catalog shows an alphabetical list of subject terms with your selection outlined in red.
Clicking on a subject heading will bring up a list of items that are all grouped under that same subject.
To examine an item closely, click on the title and you will be taken to the catalog record of the item.
Interlibrary Loan
If the status shows that the item is unavailable, you can click the link to Interlibrary Loan, located in the right column under "Additional Resources". From there you can request the item from another library, if available.
