This video and quiz on plagiarism and academic honesty was created by the University of Mississippi's Information Literacy Committee (ILC). The related outcome in the Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education is: "The information literate student understands many of the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information and accesses and uses information ethically and legally." This project grew from concerns about rising rates of academic dishonesty and students' lack of knowledge about plagiarism.
The Plagiarism and Academic Honesty: A Learning Unit won the Peer-Reviewed Instruction Materials Online (PRIMO) Award a mere month after going live in October 2009.
PRIMO is a means to promote and share peer-reviewed instructional materials created by librarians to teach people about discovering, accessing and evaluating information in networked environments. The Committee hopes that publicizing selective, high quality resources will help librarians to respond to the educational challenges posed by emerging digital technologies.
