This fall, Ms. June Queen is serving as a Visiting Instructor
for the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering.
Ms. Queen received her Bachelor of Science degree in Geology
and graduated in 2005 from the University of Mississippi.
She later went on to earn a Master of Science degree in
Geology from the University of Nevada, writing her masters
thesis on Sedimentology. Her research has focused on the
characterization and differentiation of Neogene and Pleistocene
sediments in the Verdi/west Reno basin area. Since graduating
from her Alma Mater in 2005, Ms. Queen has witnessed a significant
growth within the department. “For being a public institution,
the Geology and Geological Engineering Department at Ole
Miss presents a small school environment,” says Queen. Ms.
Queen also commented on the community of the Department,
“Over these past couple of weeks the students have become
more engaged in the classroom, and there is a close-knit
relationship between the faculty and the students, which
is what makes this program unique.” This semester Ms. Queen
is teaching Geol 101, 111, and 114 this semester.
Dr. Faith Amadi will be serving this year as a Visiting
Assistant Professor. Dr. Amadi received his Bachelor of
Science degree in Geology and Mining from Enugu State University
of Science and Technology in Nigeria in December 2001. In
May 2004, he was awarded a Master of Science degree in Geology
from Southeast Missouri State University. This past spring,
Dr. Amadi received his Ph. D. in Geology from The University
of Mississippi, specializing in Carbonate Sedimentology
and Diagenesis, Sequence Stratigraphy, and Basin Analysis.
Dr. Amadi is enthusiastic about teaching and considers it
to be “fun imparting knowledge on students.” He says, “Professors
need to know who their students are, especially in this
field. I have known some of my students since their freshman
year, and they know what I expect from them.” Dr. Amadi
is teaching Petroleum Geology and Historical Geology this
semester.
