    Former students of the Department return as visiting faculty members in Fall Semester 2009

    • June Queen This fall, Ms. June Queen is serving as a Visiting Instructor for the Department of Geology and Geological Engineering. Ms. Queen received her Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and graduated in 2005 from the University of Mississippi. She later went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Geology from the University of Nevada, writing her masters thesis on Sedimentology. Her research has focused on the characterization and differentiation of Neogene and Pleistocene sediments in the Verdi/west Reno basin area. Since graduating from her Alma Mater in 2005, Ms. Queen has witnessed a significant growth within the department. “For being a public institution, the Geology and Geological Engineering Department at Ole Miss presents a small school environment,” says Queen. Ms. Queen also commented on the community of the Department, “Over these past couple of weeks the students have become more engaged in the classroom, and there is a close-knit relationship between the faculty and the students, which is what makes this program unique.” This semester Ms. Queen is teaching Geol 101, 111, and 114 this semester.

    • Dr. Faith Amadi Dr. Faith Amadi will be serving this year as a Visiting Assistant Professor. Dr. Amadi received his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and Mining from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in Nigeria in December 2001. In May 2004, he was awarded a Master of Science degree in Geology from Southeast Missouri State University. This past spring, Dr. Amadi received his Ph. D. in Geology from The University of Mississippi, specializing in Carbonate Sedimentology and Diagenesis, Sequence Stratigraphy, and Basin Analysis. Dr. Amadi is enthusiastic about teaching and considers it to be “fun imparting knowledge on students.” He says, “Professors need to know who their students are, especially in this field. I have known some of my students since their freshman year, and they know what I expect from them.” Dr. Amadi is teaching Petroleum Geology and Historical Geology this semester.
