Mandatory Viewing of Spring 2000 
  New Student Orientation Videos

All new international students who were NOT able to attend any of the following 
orientation session(s) MUST come to the Office of International Programs by Friday, 
March 3, 2000 to watch the video-tape(s) of the session(s).  Students who do not watch 
the Spring 2000 orientation video(s) on or before Friday, March 3 will receive an Office 
of International Programs hold that will prevent them from future registration at 
The University of Mississippi.

Graduate and/or Undergraduate
Video Session 2 - New Student Immigration Information Session
Video Session 3 - New Student Activity and Student Life Session
Video Session 4 - International Student and Scholar Health Insurance Session

have viewed all of the videos.



Health Insurance Claim(s) and Question(s)

Many of your questions and / or problems regarding your health insurance 
claim(s) may be answered and / or resolved with a telephone contact to

Insurance for your dependents

Enrollment forms are available for dependent health insurance coverage. 
Eligible dependents include your husband/ wife and children who are 
under age 21.  Medical bills can be very expensive in the United States. 
It is strongly recommended that your dependents have health insurance. 
It is required if they are here in J-2 status. 
Come to the Office of International Programs to get forms or to ask questions.

Optional Practical Training (OPT) 
  Application Process

Any students wishing to apply for optional practical training are encouraged 
to visit the Office of International Programs to receive an OPT application 
and watch the mandatory video.  Please gather all OPT application materials 
listed on page one (1) of the "Optional Practical Training" application packet 
(i.e., photos, recommendation from advisor, transcripts, $100 money order, etc.) 
before scheduling an in-person appointment with the International Student Advisor, 
Mr. Paul Sanburg.



Social Security Card Application Process

The Social Security Administration is in Oxford on the following Thursdays 
in 1999 from 9:00a.m. until 11:00a.m.:
February 10 & 24
March 9 & 23
April 13 & 27
May 11 & 25
June 8 & 22
July 13 & 27
August 10 & 24

You need to bring a complete application form, your I-20 or IAP-66, 
and your passport. Application forms are available in the office.

A lot of your social security problems can be solved over the phone. 
You can call the Tupelo office at

Many of your questions and/or problems regarding your social security

    A CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM
The Office of International Programs at the University of Mississippi 
offers this exciting opportunity for Oxford area residents and 
international students to build relationships and learn about each other's culture.

The American host and the international student would meet once a month 
for shared activities such as shopping, having dinner together, attending a 
football game together, or simply visiting over a cup of coffee.

FEB. 15 Suggested Financial Aid Deadline: Priority deadline for Federal Student Aid 
(FAFSA) Application is March 15; it is suggested to file by Feb. 15 to meet priority 
deadline. Free application for FAFSA, Mississippi Tuition Assistance Grant (MTAG) 
and Mississippi Eminent Scholars Grant (MESG) applications may be picked up at the 
Office of Financial Aid. Deadline for MTAG/MESG is Sept. 15.

FEB. 24 University Artist Series: Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company 
(follows Feb. 19 production by the Alvin AileyRepertory Ensemble). 
Performances by two prominent dance companies create a mini dance festival 
demonstrating the vibrancy and passion of what critics have hailed as some of the 
best young dancers of the next generation. Works include those by today's most 
innovative choreographers, as well as longtime favorites.
